Regional Staffperson Joanne Sheehan and Youth Worker Patrick Sheehan-Gaumer provide resources and organizing support in a number of areas related to nonviolence and antimilitarism.

Counter-recruitment/alternatives to the military, emphasizing youth empowerment.

WRL/NE provides resources and trainings for high school students and adult allies to counter military recruiting and provide alternatives to the military. They also provide support for high school students organizing peace groups in their schools.

The 9th YouthPeace Experiment, weekend for high school activists will take place March 7-9th in Voluntown, CT.

Nonviolence training

WRL/NE provides facilitators for trainings on nonviolent action, campaign building and grassroots organizing skills. Workshops include: Building Strategic Grassroots Nonviolent Campaigns; Building an Active Organization; How to have a Good Meeting: Agendas, good facilitation, group decision making; Preparation for Nonviolent Direct Action. WRL/NE is in touch with nonviolence trainers in New England through the New England Nonviolence Trainers Network. WRL/NE and the Maine WRL Local Resources for Organizing and Social Change held a weekend on Nonviolent Strategy in May 2007.

Speakers/Workshops

Joanne Sheehan speaks to community groups and college classes and facilitates workshops antimilitarism, war profiteers, feminism and nonviolence and war tax resistance. Patrick Sheehan-Gaumer is available to speak with high school and college groups regarding organizing.
